Interestingly, graffiti street art from the likes of Banksy to Nick Walker is suddenly increasing in value as auctioneers from around the globe are bidding top dollar for these eclectic and rare finds.  This movement catapulted from a series of London exhibitions, ranging from street vendors to major marketplaces, and is breaking out in America.  What makes these statements of art increasingly desirable is the translation of expressionism, which combines both controversy and freedom. This is what stirs emotion from an arts perspective. These guerilla style artists represent originality and have created a collective consciousness in breaking rules, without fear of conforming to a society standard, in contemporary art. If you have £2500 (roughly $5,000) to spend, you can own one of these rare originals… and I can guarantee it would be worth every dime!

Finally a couple of intelligent, stylish and young black clothing designers have produced a collection I can get down with!  This awesome collaboration is called, Black Nerds Network.  The clothing line, created by two friends from the U.K, decided to market the Black Nerd Network into an urban label after a game of chess, and a discussion on the differences between black culture stereotypes and how intelligently we as African Americans have grown, yes into nerds!

Through that conversation, a style movement was born and it soon evolved into a full-fledged clothing company.  BNN has been getting most of their press through the social networking phenomenon myspace, as well as their own website.  Black Nerds Network has had great success in sales through creating a clothing line both wearable and witty! The site, collection, and network all work together to spread the word, “it’s good to be a nerd!”

Isaac Lee Hayes, Jr. (August 20, 1942 – August 10, 2008). Hayes was found next to a treadmill that was still running by a family member. The music icon most famously known for the Shaft theme was credited with the birth of disco, and rap. For those under 30, Hayes was known as the voice of Chef on South Park. He left that show after an episode made fun of Scientology. Hayes was a pracitcing Scientoligist. Our prayers are with his family.

This genius site is making it easy and effortless for everyone with access to an internet connection to watch every documentary they have ever wanted to see but maybe for lack of access or time never got their hands on. NBA commissioner David Stern has done a marvelous job in recent years of contorting most every controversy embroiling his league into something relatively benign, or at least flipping the culpability onto the media, society, one rouge referee, or the spoiled, incorrigible players he is paid handsomely to govern.

One can only imagine how Stern would twist the revelation of the NBA's most marketable star - LeBron James - bolting for Europe in the summer of 2010. Stern might require Fox News to help spin that story.
